Planned Giving
What will your legacy be?
Planned giving creates a legacy that will benefit future generations of students. Planned gifts help ensure that the educational and spiritual mission of Pacelli Catholic Schools will live on forever. An excellent way for you to support Pacelli Catholic Schools’ mission is to leave us a bequest in your will or living trust. One significant benefit of making a gift by bequest is that it allows you to continue to use the property you will leave to charity during your life. Another benefit is that you are able to leave a lasting legacy.

How To Give
- Will or Trust: Leave or bequeath a gift of a set amount, a percentage of your estate, property, or the residual amount. These gifts can reduce or eliminate estate taxes.
- Life Insurance: These are gifts that can offer welcomed tax savings today and significant savings in the future.
- Retirement Plans: Amounts withdrawn from retirement accounts can be taxable to you and your heirs. Enjoy little or no tax with an offsetting charitable deduction.
- Cash: Through checks and electronic transfers, gift of cash outside of an IRA have no limit and can reduce income tax liability. IRA gifts have generous limits.
- Securities: Donate appreciated stocks or bonds. The current market value is the value of your gift and you pay no capital gains tax.
- Beneficiary Designations: Name Pacelli Catholic Schools as the beneficiary on life insurance, annuities, IRAs, bank accounts, assets, or others.
What is a charitable bequest?
A bequest is a transfer of property through a will or trust to an individual or charity. Transferable property can include cash, securities (stocks), or tangible property.
Types of Bequests
There are a number of ways you can make a bequest to Pacelli Catholic Schools.
Specific Bequest: A specific bequest involves making a gift of a specific asset such as real estate, a car, other property, or a gift for a specific dollar amount. For example, you may wish to leave your home or $10,000 to Pacelli Catholic Schools.
Percentage Bequest: Another kind of specific bequest involves leaving a specific percentage of your overall estate to charity. For example, you may with to leave 10% of your estate to Pacelli Catholic Schools.
Residual Bequest: A residual bequest is made from the balance of an estate after the will or trust has given away each of the specific bequests. A common residual bequest involves leaving a percentage of the residue of the estate to charity. For example, you may wish to leave 30% of the residue of your estate to Pacelli Catholic Schools.
Contingent Bequest: A contingent bequest is made to charity only if the purpose of the primary bequest cannot be met. For example, you could leave specific property, such as a vacation home, to a relative but the bequest language could provide that if the relative is not alive at the time of your death, the vacation home will go to Pacelli Catholic Schools.
Bequest Benefits
A bequest is generally a revocable gift, which means it can be changed or modified at any time. You can choose to designate that a bequest be used for a general or specific purpose so you have the peace of mind knowing that your gift will be used as intended. Bequests are exempt from federal estate taxes. If you have a taxable estate, the estate tax charitable deduction may offset or eliminate estate taxes, resulting in a larger inheritance for your heirs.

Why document your intention with Pacelli Catholic Schools?
- You will be a victor for Pacelli. When you document your bequest intention with Pacelli, the estimated value of your future gift will count toward current fundraising goals and inspires other alumni and friends to follow your example. Right now, your planned gift will make you part of Pacelli Catholic Schools’ ongoing legacy – the Pacelli Legacy Society.
- Your wishes can come true. Documenting your intention will help ensure your wishes are met. It also allows us to keep you apprised of new programs or developments that may influence your intention.
- You can always make a change. Documenting your intention does not legally bind or create an irrevocable gift agreement (unless you intentionally enter into a binding agreement for specific reasons). You retain the flexibility to change your plans should your circumstances or priorities change. As a courtesy, we ask that you notify us should you update your plans for Pacelli Catholic Schools.
- Your privacy is honored. We respect the wishes of our donors who prefer to support Pacelli Catholic Schools anonymously. Once your charitable intention is documented, we can limit or suppress any public recognition at your request.
How to Join the Pacelli Legacy Society
When you document your wishes through a charitable bequest, you can rest easy knowing your wishes have been fully expressed and your philanthropic legacy ensured.
To formally join the Pacelli Legacy Society, complete the membership form, provide a portion of your will or trust referencing Pacelli Catholic Schools as a beneficiary (preferred but not required), and, if/when necessary, complete and returned a signed charitable gift commitment form or gift letter detailing the use of your gift.
